The sources said that the PCB chairman could hand over his powers to anyone to look after the affairs of the board.
“Waqar Younis will look after the affairs of the board after approval of Mr. Naqvi,” said the sources.
The development took place after some senior cricketers criticized Mohsin Naqvi for holding more than one office including the portfolio of interior minister.
Earlier in the day, reports emerged that Mohsin Naqvi is likely to replace Jay Shah as President of Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
The ACC presidency follows a rotation policy. At this time, Jay Shah, Secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), holds the position and was granted a one-year extension in January of this year.
Mohsin Naqvi will assume the role of ACC President for the next two-year term. Jay Shah will step down from the ACC presidency upon completing his term.
The matter of the upcoming presidency was discussed at the last ACC meeting, and the official announcement would be made at the ACC meeting scheduled for October-November.
